The Factory Youth Zone

The Factory Youth Zone

As passionate charity fundraisers we arrange and participate in lots of charity events throughout the year. However, living and working in Manchester, we also understand the importance that sustained support has in our local community.  A perfect example of this comes from George Davies Managing Partner Mark Hovell, who is a Director at a pioneering community project, The Factory Youth Zone.

Having studied and now living in Manchester with his young family, Mark feels very strongly about how much of a difference this project can make in the Manchester community.

As ‘fundraiser and volunteer’, he is responsible for introducing the project to Manchester businesses, including first generation firms who may not have a connection with the city as of yet; and also applies his extensive management experience by sitting on the sub-board which looks at finance and risk for the project.

What is The Factory Youth Zone?
Led by key members of the Manchester community, the Factory Youth Zone is a world class, state-of-the-art, iconic youth venue.

Who is it for?
The Zone is completely tailored to serve the social, recreational and emotional needs of over 1,500 young people in North Manchester.

Why is it unique?
The Factory Youth Zone is a once in a lifetime investment project as it offers some the most disadvantaged young people in North Manchester affordable and outstanding facilities; counselling and support; 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year; in an iconic building to be proud of.
What facilities does it have?
State-of-the-art facilities at the Zone include:
·         Sports hall with climbing wall
·         Studios for boxing/martial arts, dance and performing arts
·         Music and media room
·         Fitness gym
·         External 5-a-side football pitch and games area
·         Café and chill out area

How much does it cost?
Mark commented on entry fees to the Youth Zone "It is very important that this great facility is kept affordable for those who want to use it. So heavily subsidised entry costs just 50p and a small annual membership of £5.00 will help give members a sense of ownership and pride."

How is the project funded?
The project has been initially funded by a government grant of £5m and has received support from Manchester City Council who have pledged £1.2m of revenue funding and donated a fantastic site in Harpurhey.

However this facility cannot exist without the backing of the business community as Mark highlights “We all want The Factory Youth Zone to succeed, and like any business it needs good management and financial support in order to do so. Whilst initial funding has been gratefully received we need be proactive in securing future of the project and welcome anyone on board who would like to make a difference
